What is it?
Betavine Social Exchange (BSX) is a 6 month pilot project that will be launched on 15 October 2009 and will engage a number of South African stakeholders, while investigating the functionality and usability of the BSX initiative. BSX aims to facilitate the creation of mobile solutions to solve social problems in a sustainable manner. It would be achieved utilising the open mobile applications developers community. It is the aim of the project to match particular community needs and challenges with mobile applications solutions, co-created by mobile or web developers.
How does it work?
Any stakeholder (including Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other community organisations) can contact the BSX initiative, outlining a particular challenge they may face. Organisations or developers who have registered as BSX Support Partners can then step in to assist with solutions deployment. Because BSX forms part of an open community forum, there are many interested parties who can share ideas and guidance on a particular project. When a mobile developer reaches a technical solution, it is provided to the particular NGO and community organisation by uploading it onto the open solutions page.
